Volleyball Falls in LU Invite Finale

APPLETON, Wis. – The Mount Mary University volleyball squad finished up its two-day trip to Lawrence University's Alexander Gymnasium Saturday, falling to Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-0, and the host Vikings, 3-1.

The Blue Angels fell to 3-10 overall.

MSOE 3, MMU 0

Mount Mary tallied only 16 kills as a team in the day two opener, falling to the Raiders 25-15, 25-12, 25-14.

Sophomore Brianna Ecker (Fond du Lac, Wis./Stockbridge) led with six kills to accompany her eight digs. Junior Jacklyn Mozdzen (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) recorded a team-high nine digs and freshman Emma White (Scottsdale, Ariz./Saguaro) added 13 assists.

Lawrence 3, MMU 1

The Blue Angels came out much more rejuvenated in the second match of the day, but host Lawrence got its revenge after last week's defeat at the Blue Angel Bash, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22.

Freshman Ava Ramos (San Antonio, Texas/Marshall) recorded a team-high 24 digs and White scooped up 13 to accompany her 23 assists, spreading out a balanced attack in match two. The outside hitting tandem of Ecker and junior Aislinn Strusz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) each scored seven kills, while Mozdzen and junior Emma Carufel (St. Francis, Wis./St. Francis) added six apiece.

White, Strusz, and freshman Morgan Vander Kooy (Fond du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) each added three blocks.

Mount Mary will be back in action this upcoming week for a Tuesday tilt at Beloit College before preparing for another weekend tournament against MSOE, Maranatha Baptist, and Central (Iowa). Originally scheduled to be played at MSOE's Hotchkin Arena, the two-day, single-court MSOE Invite has been moved to Mount Mary's Bloechl Center.
