Volleyball Drops Pair at Warrior Invite

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University volleyball team dropped a pair of contests on opening night of the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warrior Invitational Friday, falling to Elmhurst University and Concordia University Chicago in back-to-back sweeps.

MMU (7-21 overall) not only faced some of its toughest competition of the season this weekend, it has been forced to do so without some key pieces to its lineup.

ELMHURST 3, MMU 0

Elmhurst (15-11) hit an impressive .367 as a team, including .625 in the final set alone as the Bluejays cruised to a 25-11, 25-16, 25-9 win in the tournament opener.

Junior Jacklyn Mozdzen (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) led Mount Mary with five kills, with junior Alyssa Davis (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) adding four. Sophomore Brianna Ecker (Fond du Lac, Wis./Stockbridge), the Blue Angels' offensive leader all season, shifted to the setter position and picked up 12 assists to go with a team-high 12 digs.

CONCORDIA CHICAGO 3, MMU 0

Concordia Chicago (12-16) used 13 kills on a blistering .632 attack percentage in the opening frame to dominate in MMU's second match of the night, 25-8, 25-18, 25-16.

Junior Aislinn Strusz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) led the Blue Angels with seven kills against the Cougars, but MMU recorded just 17 putaways as a team. Ecker added her second straight assist-dig double-double with 12 and 10, respectively.
