Volleyball Concludes Regular Season at WLC

MILWAUKEE – The shorthanded Mount Mary University volleyball team closed out its regular season slate with a pair of sweeping defeats Saturday afternoon, falling to MSOE and Carroll at the Warrior Invite hosted by Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Mount Mary finishes the 2021 season with a 7-23 overall record and will await its seed as predetermined hosts of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament November 5 & 6.

MSOE 3, MMU 0

For the third straight time this season, MSOE got the better of their crosstown rivals with an emphatic 25-12, 25-9, 25-10 sweep.

Juniors Jacklyn Mozdzen (Wautoma, Wis./Wautoma) and Emma Carufel (St. Francis, Wis./St. Francis) led the Blue Angels with four kills apiece while junior Aislinn Strusz (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and sophomore Brianna Ecker (Fond du Lac, Wis./Stockbridge) added three. Ecker also added 11 assists.

Mozdzen and Strusz led the defensive effort with six digs, with junior Alyssa Davis (Milwaukee, Wis./School of Languages) and freshman Isabella Poulos (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) recording five saves apiece.

CARROLL 3, MMU 0

Mount Mary hit positive for the first time all weekend on 18 kills and just 13 errors off 75 swings, but Carroll cruised to a sweep in the tournament finale, 25-11, 25-17, 25-14.

Ecker led the team in three statistical categories with seven kills, nine assists, and 10 digs. Mozdzen added three kills with eight digs, while Davis and Strusz each added three kills and seven digs apiece. Poulos also added seven digs in the libero jersey.

NEXT UP

MMU will welcome five other C2C member institutions for the six-team, two-day conference tournament at Bloechl Center. Qualified teams will be seeded early next week, with the first quarterfinal slated for an 11:00 a.m. start time Friday.
