Volleyball Falls at Home to Beloit

Volleyball Falls at Home to Beloit

Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary University Volleyball team hoped to win a second straight match against a team from the Midwest Conference when they hosted Beloit College on Tuesday. The Blue Angels were unable to sustain the momentum from their win over Lawrence and they fell at home to Beloit in four sets.

The first set of the match was a back and forth affair, as neither team could pull away.  Ultimately Beloit held on for a 25-23 win to take a lead on the match, one they would not relinquish on the evening.  The next two sets were both one sided, with each squad taking one.  Beloit won set number two 25-15.  The Blue Angels came to life in the third set.  MMU easily took set three by a score of 25-10.

As the fourth set began, it looked like Beloit might cruise to the set and match win.  The Blue Angels would not go away however.  Mount Mary trailed 17-8 and came all the way back to 21-19 in what turned out to be an exciting set.  Unfortunately for the Blue Angels on this night, they could not come all the way back and Beloit took the fourth 25-21, to end the match.

Statistical leaders for Mount Mary were Brianna Ecker with 10 kills, Emma White with 19 assists, and Ahlyna Cason with 21 digs.

It was a special night for Blue Angel first year player Alondra Arredondo, as a large contingent of fans from her Chicago high school made the trip North to watch the match.  Arredondo totaled six kills on the evening.

The Blue Angels (5-8) will be back to tournament action beginning Friday, September 23rd.  Mount Mary will travel to downtown Milwaukee to participate in the MSOE invite.  MMU will play 3 matches in the two day event, beginning with a match Friday at 4 pm against Nebraska Wesleyan.
