Nebraska Wesleyan defeats Mount Mary in opener at MSOE

MILWAUKEE, WI – Heading into a three-match weekend at Milwaukee School of Engineering, the Mount Mary Volleyball team hoped to get off to a strong start in Friday's opening match against Nebraska Wesleyan.  The Prairie Wolves were too strong for the Blue Angels unfortunately, as Nebraska Wesleyan took the match in straight sets.

Mount Mary started strong against NWU, leading for most of the first set.  The Blue Angels could not hang on to the lead unfortunately and the Prairie Wolves took a very close set one by a score of 25-20.

Set two was all NWU, Mount Mary was unable to build any momentum and they fell by a score of 25-11.

In the third set, Mount Mary showed a tremendous amount of fight.  The Blue Angels played a very competitive set and nearly forced a fourth, but MMU came up just short.  NWU took the third set by a score of 25-23 to end the match.

Looking at individual stats from the match, Caitlyn Krell and Emma White put up high assist totals on the day.  Krell with 11 and White with 10.  White also had 18 digs, Ahlyna Cason had 16 digs and Krell 13.

Mount Mary (5-9) will play two more matches in the MSOE invite, both on Saturday, September 24th.  Taking on Carleton tomorrow at 2 pm, and the host Red Raiders at 6 pm.  All Mount Mary volleyball coverage will be available here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
