MSOE Invite: Day 2 Recap

Milwaukee, WI- After two consecutive losses, the Mount Mary Volleyball team headed into day two of the MSOE invite hoping to turn the momentum around and start a new winning streak.  It was not be however on Saturday, as the Blue Angels dropped matches to Carleton College and MSOE.

The day's opening match against the Knights of Carleton College saw MMU play primarily an even first set.  But Carleton pulled away and won a tight first set by a score of 25-23. 

Set two was a neck and neck affair as well, but the Knights again pulled away for a 25-20 win.  The third set was the least competitive of the match as Carleton finished off MMU by a score of 25-15.  Ahlyna Cason had 16 digs in the match, Caitlyn Krell 16 assists, and Emma White 15.

The Blue Angels last chance for victory on the weekend came against the hosting Raiders of MSOE.  The match started with promise for Mount Mary as they played their best set of the invite, in set one of the nightcap.  The Blue Angels took set one by a 25-21 score.

MSOE almost immediately turned the tide beginning with set two and Mount Mary could not respond.  MSOE took the next three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-20 and 25-18.

Statistically, Brianna Ecker had 12 kills, Ahlyna Cason provided 21 digs and Caitlyn Krell 19 assists.

Mount Mary (5-11) will return home this week for a single match against local Milwaukee rival and fellow Women's Institution, Alverno College.  The match will be held at the Bloechl Center, Wednesday September 28th at 7 pm.  The Blue Angels hold a victory over Alverno already this season.
