Blue Angels Sweep Away Inferno

Blue Angels Sweep Away Inferno

Milwaukee, WI- Coming off a series of close losses, the Mount Mary Volleyball team looked to regain some momentum when they hosted local rival Alverno College on Wednesday. For the second time this season, the Blue Angels handled the Inferno at the Bloechl Center, this time in a three set sweep.

Mount Mary took control early in the match and would not relinquish it on the evening.  MMU took set one going away, by a score of 25-15.

Set two was the closest set of the evening and Alverno had the lead for the majority of the set.  Mount Mary showed their usual toughness and fought back in the set, which was tied at 23-23 and 24-24.  Thankfully for the home crowd, the Blue Angels persevered and won the set by a 26-24 final.

Mount Mary returned to their controlling fashion in set number 3.  Forcing the Inferno to use their timeouts early, Mount Mary played a clean set and cruised to a 25-17 win to close out the match.

Kaitlyn Powers, Brianna Ecker, and Lillian Thundercloud, paced MMU in kills with 12,9, and 6 respectively.  In the assist column, Emma White totaled 17 and Caitlyn Krell 13.  As per usual Ahlyna Cason set the pace for MMU in the dig column with 18, and Ava Ramos added 11.

Mount Mary (6-11) is now just one victory away from matching their win total from the entire 2021 season.  They will search for that victory next Tuesday, October 4th, as the Blue Angels head back to Appleton for a third meeting with the Vikings of Lawrence University.  MMU took the first two matches, one at Mount Mary and one at Lawrence.
