Blue Angels tame the Lions for second time this season

Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary Blue Angel volleyball team took care of business Saturday against Finlandia. The Blue Angels defeated the Lions for the second time this season in a three set sweep. With their 8th win of the season, the Blue Angels have clinched the best MMU volleyball season since 2012, a great accomplishment for the young squad.

Finlandia scored the first six points of the match, but the Angels rallied quickly and at no point did the match seem in doubt.  MMU swept the match by scores of 25-19, 25-16, and 25-18.

Brianna Ecker stuffed the stat sheet with 15 kills and 12 digs.  Ava Ramos also tallied 21 digs from the Libero spot.

A trend that continues to encourage for the present and future of the MMU volleyball program is young players contributing in big ways.  First year Blue Angels, Caitlyn Krell, Kaitlyn Powers, Lillian Thundercloud, and Alondra Arredondo spent the majority of the match on the court and continue to play well.

Krell recorded 30 assists and Powers was a force at the net as usual, totaling 13 kills on the match.  Thundercloud and Arredondo both contributed to the win with solid play as well.

Mount Mary (8-12) has two single road games next week, both against familiar Dairy state openents.  On Wednesday, October 12th, MMU will head to Alverno for a 7 pm match.  The Blue Angels have bested the Inferno twice at home this season, and will look for a third win at Alverno's Reiman Gymnasium.

Thursday, October 13th, will see MMU take on Maranatha Baptist University, who the Blue Angels fell to in 4 sets on October 7th.  The match in Watertown is also scheduled for a 7 pm first serve.
