Blue Angels fall to Alverno in back and forth match

Blue Angels fall to Alverno in back and forth match

Milwaukee, WI- Wednesday evening saw the Volleyball teams from Mount Mary and Alverno College meet for a third time this season. The meeting was the first at Alverno and the contest could not have been much closer, with Alverno winning a five set thriller over the Blue Angels.

The first set of the evening belonged the home standing Inferno.  The large crowd provided them with a spark as they took set number one by a score of 25-15.  However, as been apparent throughout the season, the Blue Angels are nothing if not resilient.  They bounced back to take set two 25-23.

The back and forth results continued, with Alverno taking set 3 by a 25-20 count.  Once again, MMU would not give up or give in, the Blue Angels won set 4 by a score of 25-20 and forced the decisive fifth set.

Unfortunately for MMU on this evening, the alternating results continued in the fifth.  Alverno took an early lead and won the fifth by a final score of 15-6 to end the match and clinch the Inferno win.

Brianna Ecker tallied 16 kills and Kaitlyn Powers had 9.  Caitlin Krell had 28 assits from the setter spot for MMU.  Defensively, Ava Ramos recorded 23 digs, Lillian Thundercloud 20, and Krell added 19.

Mount Mary (8-13) will have the quickest of possible turnarounds as they are back in action on Thursday, October 13th.  MMU will travel to Watertown, Wisconsin to take on Maranatha Baptist University.  MBU is another team that Mount Mary is quite familiar with, as this will be the third meeting between the two squads this season.  The Blue Angels will look to turn the tide against the Sabercats who have won the first two matchups.   The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm and all live coverage can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
