Blue Angel Rally falls just short at Maranatha

Watertown, WI- The Mount Mary volleyball team has consistently shown a refusal to give up and a great amount of fight all season.  That was apparent again on Thursday, as the young Blue Angel squad rallied back from two sets down to even the match against Maranatha Baptist.  MMU won the third and fourth sets, but the homestanding Sabercats took set 5 and defeated Mount Mary for a third time this season.

The first two sets were taken by Maranatha Baptist by scores of 25-21 and 25-18.  The Blue Angels came to life and won sets 3 and 4 by final scores of 25-23 and 25-19.

The Blue Angels could not sustain the momentum for one more set unfortunately.  As the Sabercats won set 5 by a score of 15-5, giving them a 3-2 set win on the evening.  The close defeat was the second in as many nights, as MMU fell in 5 sets at Alverno on Wednesday, October 12th.

Brianna Ecker had 16 kills on the match, and the first-year duo of Kaitlyn Powers and Lillian Thundercloud added 12 kills each.  Caitlyn Krell contributed to most of those kills with her 28 assists on the evening, On the defensive side of the stat sheet, Ava Ramos totaled 18 digs, Thundercloud 14 and Krell 12.

Mount Mary (8-14) will have a week-long chance to catch their breath.  They will next be in action at the MMU Fall invite.  The two-day event will see the Blue Angels take on these same Maranatha Sabercats as well as two foes from the MIAA, Olivet College and Alma College.  The first match for MMU will be against the Comets of Olivet at 5:30 pm on Friday, October 21st.
