Salisbury defeats Mount Mary in C2C Quarterfinals

Fredericksburg, Virginia – Following the best regular season since 2012, the Mount Mary Volleyball earned the opportunity to compete in the Coast 2 Coast Conference Volleyball tournament. The winner of the event earning a trip to the NCAA Division 3 Volleyball tournament. Mount Mary showed competitive spirt in their opening match, but the Seagulls of Salisbury played three very clean sets and swept MMU in the match.

After traveling East, the Blue Angels first opponent would be the Gulls of Salisbury University.  Salisbury wasted no time playing quality volleyball as they took set 1 by a score of 25-11.

In set #2, the two teams alternated points early.  Salisbury gradually began to pull away, but the Blue Angels would not give up.  The Seagulls held leads of 11-6 and 14-10 before they began to seize the momentum in the set.  Salisbury would take set # 2 by a final score of 25-10.

The third set began with MMU hanging tough early once again.  Salisbury then continued the trend of pulling away as they controlled the majority of set three and won by a final score of 25-7.

Kaitlyn Powers had 4 kills for Mount Mary, Emma White 5 assists, and Brianna Ecker 7 digs on the contest.

While they are eliminated from championship contention, the Blue Angels (8-22) will play one more match in the tournament.  They will play on Saturday, November 5th, at 10 am Central time.  Their opponent will be the loser of the Christopher Newport against Pratt match.  The young MMU squad will look to claim 5th place in the tournament and finish the season on a positive note in their final match.  Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all volleyball coverage.
