Blue Angels fight to the finish in season finale

Blue Angels fight to the finish in season finale

Fredericksburg, Virginia – Heading into Saturday's match up against the Pratt Institute, the Mount Mary volleyball team knew a few things. 5th place in the Coast 2 Coast conference would be on the line, and it would be their final match of the season. The match was tight throughout, and though they fell in four sets, the Blue Angels showed the same fight and resilience that they have all season.

The first two sets of the match were as close as possible.  Unfortunately for MMU, Pratt pulled both out by the closest of margins, winning the sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-23, respectively.  Facing the dissapointment of the two close set losses, Mount Mary was faced with the opportunity to fade away in their last match of the season.  The Blue Angels would do no such thing, as they played their best set of the match and the tournament in set number 3.  MMU dominated the set and won by a 25-15 score.

Perhaps the rally in set three took all the reserve the Blue Angels had left, as Pratt took the 4th by a 25-18 score and ended the match.

Brianna Ecker piled up 15 kills and Kaitlyn Powers added 9 to conclude her outstanding first season.  Emma White and Caitlyn Krell both totaled double digit assists, White with 16 and Krell with 14.  In the dig column, Ecker had 18, White 15, and Ava Ramos 14.

Mount Mary (8-23) wraps up a 2022 campaign in which they won the most matches since the 2012 season.  The roster featured no seniors, and a number of contributing young players with bright futures will return for next season, leading to great promise and optimism for the MMU volleyball program.  Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all Mount Mary volleyball and athletic coverage.
