Volleyball Ripon College Classic: Day Two Recap

Ripon, WI- Heading into day 2 of the Ripon College Classic, the Mount Mary Volleyball team hoped to break through for their first win of the season.  Saturday unfolded much like Friday, the Blue Angels played with great competitiveness throughout the day, but were unable to pull out one of the two matches.  MMU dropped matches to Martin Luther College and the University of Dubuque.

Coming off of Friday's 7 pm match, Mount Mary faced a quick turnaround with a 10 am match against Martin Luther College to begin their day.  MLC took a close first set by a score of 25-20.  In a fashion very similar to Friday evening against Ripon, the Blue Angels stormed back and took the second set.  It was a thrilling back and forth set, which MMU won by a 30-28 score to even the match.

The Knights of MLC rebounded to take set #3 by a score of 25-19.  The Knights would then continue the momentum for a 25-20 4th set win, which ended the match.

Brianna Ecker recorded 12 kills to lead MMU, and Kaitlyn Powers made a welcome return to the lineup with 10 kills.  Ecker also led the Blue Angels with 17 digs, while Emma White was the assist leader for MMU with 15.

In the weekend's final match, Mount Mary took on the Spartans of the University of Dubuque.  The Spartans controlled the match and knocked off MMU in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-13, 25-9.

The Blue Angels (0-4) will next be in action at the annual Blue Angel Bash.  The six-team event, hosted by MMU at the Bloechl Center, will see Mount Mary play four matches over September 8th and 9th.  The first will be Friday, September 8th at 2:30 pm, against Alverno College.   All live coverage of the event will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
