Appleton, WI – The Mount Mary volleyball team headed into their third consecutive weekend of multiple matches on Friday. This weekend saw the Blue Angels head to Lawrence University for three matches between Friday and Saturday. While Mount Mary dropped the day's first match to Marian, they rebounded in a most impressive fashion and decisively swept the host Lawrence Vikings for their second win of the season.
The Marian Sabres gave Mount Mary an inhospitable welcome to the Fox Valley in the day's first match. Marian swept MMU by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-18. Kaitlyn Powers led Mount Mary with six kills, Harlee McDowell recorded nine digs, and Emma White recorded six assists to pace Mount Mary.
The second match of Friday saw the Blue Angels take on the host Lawrence Vikings. Mount Mary fell to Lawrence in five sets on Friday September 8th at the Blue Angel Bash. MMU came storming out of the gate and took set number one by a 25-21 score. Set number two saw the Blue Angels raise their play to an even higher level, scoring the last ten consecutive points of the set and dominating by a 25-5 score.
In set number 3, Mount Mary gave Lawrence no hope of a comeback, cruising to a match clinching set win, by a score of 25-15. As a team the Blue Angels recorded 36 kills and served 11 aces.
Individually, Kaitlyn Powers recorded 17 kills and Brianna Ecker added 11. Mount Mary had 35 assists as a team, and Emma White recorded 31 to lead the squad. Harlee McDowell led Mount Mary with 12 digs, with Ecker and Rosalinda Palacios adding 11 each.
Coming off of their most impressive win of the season, the Blue Angels (2-8), will play one more match in the Lawrence Tournament.
