Volleyball drops close match at Alverno

Milwaukee, WI- Saturday saw the Mount Mary Volleyball team travel to Alverno College for the season's second meeting between the Blue Angels and the Inferno.  MMU had bested Alverno on September 7th, in Saturday's second meeting, all three sets were close, but Alverno was victorious by scores of 25-21, 26-24, and 26-24.

In set number one, the homestanding Inferno got the better of things and pulled out a close set by a 25-21 score.  In set number two, MMU had the chance for a match point, but a very close baseline call allowed the Inferno to stay in the set.  They then pulled out the second set by a 26-24 score. 

In set number three, the Blue Angels seemed poised to extend the match, holding leads of 7-1, 9-3, and 23-20.  Unfortunately, on this day they could not cool down the Inferno.  As Alverno pulled out another very close set by a score of 26-24 to end the match.

Statistically, Brianna Ecker once again was the Blue Angel leader in kills with 17.  She is now just 28 short of 1,000 with her career total at 972.  Emma White had 10 kills in addition to leading MMU with 17 assists, Caitlyn Krell added 15 assists.  Harlee McDowell had 14 digs to lead the Blue Angels.

Next up for the Blue Angels (5-14) will be a trip to Rockford University.  Mount Mary will cross the border and take on the Regents on Tuesday evening, October 17th at 7 pm.  Rockford holds one victory over MMU on the season and the Blue Angels will seek revenge on Tuesday.  All live coverage will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
