Cold, No Problem For Improving Blue Angels

Cold, No Problem For Improving Blue Angels

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – The crisp winds remind you of how quickly temperatures can change in Wisconsin. Just seven days prior, the spectators were dressed in short sleeves and shorts, today's fans were bundled up in multiple layers and still uncomfortable. Amidst the chill Mount Mary University finished 12th out of 14 teams today at the Warrior Invitational. Trinity Christian College ranked first; TCC's Anna Bos had a first place time of 22:43.8. The six kilometer Greenfield Park course in West Allis, Wis. was only the second course of that length this season for the Blue Angels.

The theme for the Blue Angels this season is cutting down on times across the board, and weirdly enough MMU's best times have come in six kilometer races. One runner particularly has been not only cutting down times, but finishing closer and closer to the top. That Blue Angel, Hayley Hove (So./Golden Valley, Minn.). With a solid finish last weekend, Hove continued by placing 44th today, and set her collegiate personal record at 27:26.9. Hove was averaging 4 minutes 42 seconds per kilometer before today's 4:34.1 per kilometer pace.

The words improvement do not begin to describe the season put together by Natalie Guyette (So./Shiocton, Wis.) who finished in 46th place. An astonishing determination has seen Guyette go from 05:15.1 per km to a 04:35.2 per km pace; in fact every race Guyette has taken 10 seconds off her pace. Her performance was good enough to set her NCAA personal best with a 27:32.9 finishing time.

Danielle Sherrer (Milwaukee, Wis.) was right in the pack, she had a 28:08.7 time and took 52nd place. Nearly 50 seconds taken off of Sherrer's previous six kilometer race. Lily Lopez (Fr./Milwaukee, Wis.) ran 32:53.9, Denise Hernandez (So./Brownsville, Texas) 36:22.3 and Grace Rock (So./Kouts, Ind.) finished at 38:03.2.

Blue Angels cross country will race in the Lucian Rosa Invitational on UW Parkside's campus in Somers, Wis. The race is Saturday Oct. 11th and will begin at 11:00 am.
