Blue Angels Have Big Finish

Blue Angels Have Big Finish

MEQUON, Wis. -- As their first season in the NACC continues, the Mount Mary University cross country team finished ninth out of 16 teams at the Ken Weidt Classic. The bright and 60 degree day on the Concordia University Wisconsin campus made it almost ideal weather for some runners.

The ninth place finish is one of the best finishes for the Blue Angels with a team pool of this size. In 2013, the Blue Angels finished eighth out of 16 at the Wisconsin Private College Championships. Both of these great finishes were on six kilometer courses.

There were stand out performances from top to bottom for MMU. Newcomer Jori Galles (So./Waukesha, Wis.) led the Blue Angels bunch for her second race in a row with a 25:21.5 and 22nd place finish.

Natalie Guyette (Jr./Shiocton, Wis.) again was right behind Galles, finishing 31st and with a 25:41.1 time.

Danielle Sherrer (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.) and Hayley Hove (Jr./Golden Valley, Minn.) finished in a near tie with each other, at times of 28:16.8 and 28:17.5 respectively. Freshman runner Christina Ishaq (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished in the same pack at 28:30.5 and in 66th place.

A big step for the Blue Angels. Last season the top runners continued to cut their times from week to week regardless of the weather or terrain they were faced with. If that trend continues, MMU cross country could make some noise in the NACC Championship race.

After two early races in 2015, the Blue Angels will have a little time to rest before their next race. MMU will hit the trail again Sat. Sept. 26 at the Sabercats Invitational in Watertown, Wis. with the starting gun set for 10:00 am.
