Eighth Place Finish for MMU

Eighth Place Finish for MMU

MEQUON, Wis. – Today at the Ken Weidt Classic, the Mount Mary University cross country team finished eighth out of the 14 teams competing. The first six-kilometer race of the season for the Blue Angels had two MMU Runners in the top 25 of the 140 runner field. St. Norbert College placed first in team scoring while Moody Bible Institute's Patricia Harrison finished first in individual times (22:54.3).

Jori Galles (Sr./Waukesha, Wis.) and Christina Ishaq (Jr./Milwaukee, Wis.) led MMU for the second straight race. With the damp and mushy terrain through the backend of the race, the two Blue Angels were still able to finish with times of 25:49.1 and 25:53.4 respectively. The 21st and 22nd place finishes for the duo was a significant boost for the Blue Angels and helped propel the team to the eighth place finish.

Back in her first race of 2017, Daniella Torres finished in 69th place overall. The sophomore trekker tallied a 32:11.3, which was just 5 seconds off of her collegiate personal best.

Fresh to the Blue Angels roster, Miranda Fluegge stepped up to finish right behind Torres with a 32:33.6 time and a 71 place finish.

Carlie O'Donnell (Jr./Sharon, Wis.) rounded out the Blue Angels team scoring with a solid 75th place finish. O'Donnell lost nearly a minute off of her time from the previous 6-K Ken Weidt Classic when she finished today's race with a 32:43.5.

Sarah Anklam (Jr./St Marys, Ga.) and Mary Jenks (So./Wild Rose, Wis.) finished the official timing with 33:54.1 and 34:24.1 respectively. Ashley Tannert (Jr./New Berlin, Wis.) completed her second collegiate race, her first ever 6-k with a 40:31.3.

The Blue Angels will now prepare for the Tom Hoffman Invitational next Sat. Sept. 16. It will be the first time in school history MMU will participate in the annual invitational. The gun sounds at 10:45 for the women's 6-k race on the campus of UW Whitewater. Follow mtmaryathletics.com for updates.
