Blue Angels Take Seventh Place

Blue Angels Take Seventh Place

MEQUON, Wis. – The Mount Mary University cross country team finished seventh out of the 13 teams participating today at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Host Concordia University Wisconsin edged out Aurora University in team scoring to give the Falcons first place. Benedictine's Emma Roberts finished first in the race with a 22:46.6.

Blue Angel Jori Galles (Sr./Waukesha, Wis.) finished the six-kilometer track with a 24:42.3 and a fitting seventh place individual finish. Galles has been finishing in front of the pack all season long, and is now in the top ten runners for the NACC, one of the region's top conferences.

As they have in every race this season, Galles and Christina Ishaq (Jr./Milwaukee, Wis.) finished in tandem. This time, Ishaq found herself in 20th place overall. Again, with the top talent in the region, the Blue Angels top two runners finished top 20 against some of the Midwest's best runners. Ishaq capped off the six-kilometer race 25:57.8 final.

As the conference takes the top five times to compute the overall placing, the final three scoring runners all finished in another pack. Miranda Fluegge (Fr./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) was steps behind Aurora's Janeth Sanchez with 100 meters left to go. A quick serge and kick, and Fluegge flung herself past Sanchez just before crossing the finish line to take 54th place, 75th overall. Fluegge ended with a 29:48.2 time.

Mary Jenks (So./Wild Rose, Wis.), Carly O'Donnell (Jr./Sharon, Wis.) and Manami Komatsu (So./Tokyo, Japan) finished in a virtual pack of their own. Jenks led the way with a 31:27.4 in 61st place, 89th overall. O'Donnell finished paces behind her in 62nd place. Komatsu finished with a 31:49.3.

Ashley Tannert (Jr./New Berlin, Wis.) and Asmara Pretrick finished the race for the MMU Squad, Tannert placed 113 while Pretrick finished 118.

The Blue Angels will have two weeks to prepare for their season finale at the NCAA Regionals at Augustan College. The six-kilometer track will be ready for the race on Sat. Nov. 11 at 12:00 pm. For updates and finals, visit mtmaryathletics.com.
