Another Sixth Place Finish For MMU

GREENFIELD, Wis. – Today at the Warrior Invitational at Greenfield Park, the Mount Mary University cross country team finished sixth out of the 11 teams racing. Host Wisconsin Lutheran College placed first in team scoring; Grace Christian University's Kim Buskirk finished in first with a 24:51.6 on the six-kilometer course.

The cold day played a factor in today's race. A consistent bite in the air with the already damp conditions just added to setting today.

Christina Ishaq (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Blue Angels for the third time this season. This time, Ishaq braved the cold temperatures to come away with a 27:16.69 and 26th place out of the 92 runners. After a strong finish at the Lucian Rosa Invitational last weekend, Ishaq was able to shave 42 seconds off her season's best at six-kilometers.

Following suit with Ishaq's drastic shaving off of time, Emily Green (Fr./Waukesha, Wis.) finished today's race with a 28:25.22, over one minute off her previous race at six-kilometer. The improvement for the freshman yielded her 37th place.

Finishing within two seconds of one another, Miranda Fluegge (So./Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and Daniela Torres (Jr./West Allis, Wis.) grabbed 44th and 45th places respectively. Fluegge shaved forty seconds off her 6-k time from last weekend.

Rounding out the team scoring for the Blue Angels, Johnelle Suto (So./Enterprise, Ore.) finished 52nd at the invite. Suto crossed the finish line at 29:33.77 for her 6-k collegiate personal record.

Ana Andrade (Sr./Milwaukee, Wis.) set her best time of the 2018 season with her finish today. Andrade placed 55th overall and came away with a 30:21.42, over one minute faster than her season's best.

Finishing in 81st place was Amanda Fahrendorf (Sr./Cedarburg, Wis.) with a 36:53.98, nearly 90 seconds faster than her previous six-kilometer race.

After today's race, the Blue Angels will have a few weeks to prepare for their next race. They will return to action Sat. Oct. 13 for the Wisconsin Private College Championships at Ripon College. The starting-gun for the women's race will sound at 11:00 am. Final times, news and player info can be found at MtMaryAthletics.com.
