Harriers Sixth at Weidt Classic

MEQUON, Wis. – The Mount Mary University Cross Country team debuted its 2021 campaign Saturday at the Ken Weidt Cross Country Classic hosted on the campus of Concordia University Wisconsin, finishing in sixth place among the 12 teams represented at the event.

Mount Mary was one of just six programs to support a full, five-person team at the six kilometer race. Perennial powers Lawrence, UW-Oshkosh, St. Norbert, and CUW claimed the top spots with the Vikings amassing an impressive 31 points. MMU finished 33 points behind Moody Bible with a team score of 185.

Sophomore Jamy McClain (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame) recorded the fastest time among Blue Angel harriers, crossing the finish line in 32:13.5, ranking 61st among all runners and 35th among team point contributors.

Right behind McClain were sophomore Ellie McMeeken (West Bend, Wis./Slinger) and senior Emily Green (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West), who finished 64th and 66th, respectively. McMeeken's time of 32:47.7 earned Mount Mary 36 points, while Green's 33:34.6 pace scored 37 points.

Also contributing to the team score were freshman Mia Sustek (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) who finished at 47:22.1, and classmate Analee Montijo (Milwaukee, Wis./Carmen Southeast) who finished at 48:42.5, tallying 38 and 39 team points respectively.

Incomplete teams from Alverno, Bryant & Stratton, Illinois Tech, Lake County, Lakeland, and Marian also participated in the meet.

The Blue Angels will take a couple weeks off to prepare for the Warrior Invitational on October 2. The race, hosted annually by Wisconsin Lutheran College at Greenfield Park in West Allis, will start at 11 a.m.
