Competition Returns to MMU
After a yearlong pause and for the first time since March 15, 2020—347 total days for those counting—the Blue Angels will leap back into intervarsity competition with a late week softball tournament. Many Mount Mary Athletics programs have begun resuming activities and practices this spring semester, with the softball team preparing for their official NCAA season-opener on Thursday afternoon.
Softball Debuts '21 Season at MMU Slugger Series
The Blue Angel softball team will kick off its 2021 campaign Thursday & Friday by hosting Part I of the inaugural MMU Collegiate Slugger Series at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, Ill. Mount Mary and Slugger Peoria welcome 10 teams to the openeing week of Slugger Series action, with the Blue Angels facing Augustana, Loras, and Edgewood over the Thursday-Friday slate. Also competing that week are Concordia Chicago, Heartland Community College, Marian, Waubonsee Community College, UW-Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Lutheran.

This marks the first MMU program to return to intervarsity competition since the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shutdown of all NCAA-affiliated sports last March. Last season, the softball team cut short its 2020 PFX Spring Games trip to Florida after just three days of competition.
