Red Hot Blue Angels Sweep Lawrence

Red Hot Blue Angels Sweep Lawrence

Appleton, WI – The Mount Mary Blue Angel softball team brought an explosive offense to Appleton on Tuesday and easily swept the Vikings of Lawrence University.  In the doubleheader, the Blue Angels scored 29 runs, pounded out 27 hits and hit 3 home runs.  Mount Mary is on their hottest streak of the season, having won 4 of their last 5.

Game 1 on Tuesday was a close contest through the first three innings, with Mount Mary and Lawrence tied at 2 as the 3rd inning concluded.  Mount Mary then blew the game open with 8 runs in the last 3 innings which propelled them to a 14-2 victory.   Mount Mary played long ball 3 times in the game, with home runs from Aislinn Strusz, Brianna Ecker and Sam Allen.  Strusz, Ecker and Allen each had two hits in the game, as did Micaela Gonzalez and Kylie Ann Kluck

Head Coach Perry Clark on the Blue Angel offensive attack, "we hit the ball extremely well and the long balls really helped the cause.  It was nice to see some players in slumps work their way out, espcially Brianna (Ecker) and Kylie Ann (Kluck).  Ace (Strusz) and Sam (Allen) continue to hit the ball with authority while driving in runs."

Brianna Lupa continued her impressive season in the pitching circle, striking out 8 Vikings and allowing only 2 walks.  Lupa now has 7 wins on the 2022 campaign.

Clark on the Blue Angel pitching, "Our pitchers did a nice job of keeping the ball low and away, and giving our defense easy opportunities to make plays.  We had very few tough situations and we worked our way out of the ones we had with little or no damage."

Mount Mary never allowed Lawrence to stick around in game 2, the Blue Angels took a 7-2 lead into the 5th and then shut the door with 8 runs in the top of the 5th.  Mount Mary completed the three-game season sweep of Lawrence with a 15-2 win.

McKinize Alexus-Douglas pitched a complete game for her first collegiate win.  Mount Mary's offensive heroes in game 2 were many, with Alexus-Douglas, Gonzalez, Elise DeGraef, Strusz, Kluck and Shawna Butler all providing two hits.  The Blue Angels pounded out 16 hits in the 5-inning game.  Aislinn Strusz continued her impressive season at the plate, specifically knocking in runs, Strusz tallied another 6 rbi in the two games, raising her season total to a whopping 33 runs batted in through 24 games.

Mount Mary (9-15) could not have started what will be a busy week in a more positive fashion, the Blue Angels will travel to Alverno for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 21.  Friday and Saturday will bring 4 contests between Mount Mary and Maranatha Baptist University.   The Friday games will now be played at Stiks Academy in Waukesha, the doubleheader match ups are scheduled for 7 and 9 pm.
