First No Hitter of NCAA era headlines Senior night sweep

Waukesha, WI – It could not be more apparent that the Mount Mary softball team is playing an exciting and winning brand of softball, the Blue Angels have won 6 of their last 7 games, have totaled the most wins since 2017, and last night's doubleheader was highlighted by the first Mount Mary no hitter in the NCAA era of Mount Mary softball (which begun in 2010).

After dominating game one by a score of 9-0, the Blue Angels sent McKinzie Alexus- Douglas to the circle for game 2.  Douglas would pitch four hitless innings, and Elise DeGraef would finish the fifth inning for the combined no-hitter.

As a whole, Mount Mary pitching held Maranatha to just 2 hits in the doubleheader and struck out 14 Maranatha hitters.  The Blue Angels produced 9 runs in each of the two games and cruised to two 9-0 victories.

Mount Mary (11-15) has now won the most games in a season since the 2017 team finished the season with 14 wins, which is the NCAA era record for MMU softball single season victories.

On a night when Mount Mary honored six seniors in the softball program, senior Lauren Nylund sparked the offense with four hits in the doubleheader.  Aislinn Strusz also knocked in 3 more runs on the evening, her 36 runs batted in is a single season Mount Mary NCAA era record.

Brianna Lupa pitched 3 more scoreless innings in game one for her eighth pitching win of the season.  Lupa's eighth wins ties the single season high mark for victories in a season. Lupa dominated her three innings, striking our 7 of the 10 batters she faced.  Lupa has amassed 82 strikeouts on the season, just one away from equaling her own single season NCAA era record of 83.  She also helped her cause at the plate with a 2 run homerun in game 1.

Mount Mary honored seniors Jacklyn Mozdzen, Lauren Nylund, Karley Vega, Taylor Hienbuecher, Aislinn Strusz and Shawna Butler with a ceremony in between games one and two.

The Blue Angels and Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist will waste no time in continuing their series.  They will meet again on Saturday, April 23rd for a doubleheader, this time hosted by Maranatha.  The games are scheduled for 12 and 2 pm.
