Softball Recap- Day 1 & 2 in Arizona

Softball Recap- Day 1 & 2 in Arizona

Tucson, AZ- The Mount Mary University softball team played four games in Arizona over Sunday, March 3rd and Monday, March 4th.  The Blue Angels have shown very positive flashes thus far, but they have been unable to pull out a win in their first four games out West.

MMU opened the trip with a match up against the University of Puget Sound.  Puget Sound scored ten runs in the game's first three innings to put the contest out of reach.  Brianna Ecker's two run single provided the only offense on the game for MMU, as they fell by a 13-2 final.

The next two match ups for the Blue Angels were against Drew University.  MMU hung tough in both games but could not pull out a victory.  In game one against Drew, Alexandria Eads knocked in two runs with a sixth inning single.  It was too little and too late however, as Drew hung on for a 6-3 win.

Monday's opening contest was a rematch with Drew.  Brianna Lupa was solid in the circle, keeping MMU in the game.  Katelyn McCullum had a 3-3 day at the plate, unfortunately it was Drew that was able to push across a few runs in the last three innings, and they won the game by a 4-0 final.

Monday's second contest saw the Blue Angels take a 1-0 lead in the first inning over St. John Fisher, Mary DeFore cracked a rbi single for the lead.  St. John Fisher would score all of the games remaining runs however, to knock off MMU by an 11-1 score.  Jodie Penman and Brianna Ecker joined DeFore with hits in the game.

The Blue Angels (1-7) will take the field again on Tuesday, March 5th.  It will be a traditional doubleheader against RPI beginning at 2:30 pm.  All coverage of Blue Angel softball can be found on www.mtmaryathletics.com
