Blue Angels fall just short at Elmhurst

Elmhurst, IL- The Mount Mary University softball team took on the Blue Jays of Elmhurst University on Friday.  Elmhurst had defeated MMU earlier in the season and the Blue Angels looked to turn the tables.

Mount Mary dropped a one run game in the doubleheader's front end, 4-3, and fell in game two by a score of 6-1.  The Blue Angels once again showed positive signs on the day that could lead to good results in the remainder of the season.

The day got off to a solid start for the Blue Angels, as a Jodie Penman 2-run single staked MMU to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st of game one.  Mount Mary would lead 3-2 heading into the bottom of inning number four, but Elmhurst plated two runs to take a 4-3 lead.  That inning would be the difference in game one, as the Blue Jays held on for the win by the slimmest of margins.

Kaylee Baker provide two hits for the Blue Angel offense, and Taylor Hames added a rbi single.  Aariana Kraut went the distance in the pitching circle, performing well, as she allowed only three earned runs in six innings of work.

Game two saw Elmhurst take a 3-0 lead into the 4th inning.  The Blue Angels would pull closer with a single run in the top of the 5th, but the bottom of the inning saw Elmhurst answer with three runs which would lead to the 6-1 final score.

Brianna Ecker and Lillian Fay each provided two hits for MMU, and Jodie Penman and Kaylee Baker added hits as well.

Mount Mary (1-16) will be in action again shortly after the Easter Holiday.  On Monday, April 1st, MMU will return to Illinois to take on Benedictine University.  The doubleheader games are scheduled for 12 and 2 pm and live coverage can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
