Early Offense powers Blue Angels over Maranatha

Early Offense powers Blue Angels over Maranatha

Glendale, WI- The Mount Mary University softball team hosted the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University in their first home contests of the 2024 season on Thursday.

It was a good day all around for the Blue Angels as they took both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 11-1 and 15-2.

In Game one, the Blue Angels exploded for an eleven run second inning which was all the offense they would need.  Mary DeFore went all five innings in the circle, allowing only one run to the Sabercat lineup.  Every member of the starting lineup tallied at least one hit for MMU, Katelyn McCallum, Micaela Gonzalez, and Kaylee Baker had two hits each.  Baker knocked in two runs as did Brianna Ecker.

Game two saw Mount Mary explode offensively in the early going once again.  The Blue Angels would score an incredible 15 runs in the game's first two innings.  Aariana Kraut went the distance in the pitching circle for the win, but she also struck a huge offensive blow for MMU with a three-run double at the plate.  Mount Mary tallied 18 hits in the blowout victory.

Taylor Hames, Brianna Mendez, and Alexandria Eads each had three hits, Kraut had 2 hits as did Harlee McDowell

Mount Mary scored 26 runs and pounded out 29 hits in only eight offensive innings in the doubleheader.  In the pitching circle, Mary DeFore and Kraut combined to strikeout 15 Maranatha batters.

The Blue Angels (4-17) have won three of their last four games and seem to be building momentum for the season's stretch run.  They will be back in action on Friday, April 12th when they head to Naperville, Illinois to take on the Cardinals of North Central College.  The doubleheader is scheduled for 3 and 5 pm and all live coverage is available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
