Softball in Florida: Day 1 Recap

Melbourne, FL- The Mount Mary Blue Angel softball team opened their annual Spring Break trip with two games Monday.

MMU was unable to secure their second win of the season as they fell in games to Misericordia and Concordia University Chicago.

In game one, Alexandria Eads and Jodie Penman provided hits for Mount Mary, but they fell by a 16-0 final score.

Game two saw the Blue Angels take on the Cougars of Concordia University Chicago.  CUC scored four in the top of the 1st, but MMU answered with a run of their own on an Amanda Nance RBI double.

The game stayed at 4-1 through three innings, the Cougars then added one run in the top of the 4th and three in the 5th to extend their lead to 8-1.

MMU fought right back in the bottom of the 5th, scoring three in the inning to pull with four runs at 8-4.

Both teams would score again in the 7th but Mount Mary could not climb the mountain and complete the comeback.  The Blue Angels fell to CUC by a final score of 11-5.

Amanda Nance had a great day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two runs batted in.  Crystal Peterson and Lillian Fay also had two hits in the contest.

The Blue Angels (1-5) will be back in action Tuesday morning in the sunshine state.  They will take on Rivier at 9 am and Houghton at 11:15 am.  Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all coverage of Blue Angel softball.
