Melbourne, FL- Day three of the Mount Mary softball team's Spring trip to Florida began with a match up against the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University. John Carroll would use a six run first inning to take an insurmountable lead in game one and defeat Mount Mary by a final score of 11-0.
Crystal Peterson collected the lone hit in the game for MMU.
In their second contest of the day, Mount Mary squared off with Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.
The Blue Angels played an outstanding offensive game, scoring seven runs and pounding out 13 hits. Unfortunately, they fell just short in a back-and-forth game to Rose Hulman by a final score of 11-7.
Amanda Nance sparked the Blue Angel offense, going three for four with a run batted in. Micaela Gonzalez, Alexandria Eads, and Lillian Fay each had two hits to help the cause, with Fay and Taylor Hames knocking in two runs each.
Hames also went the distance in the pitching circle, surrendering only four earned runs to Rose Hulman on the night.
Mount Mary (1-9) will play two more games in the sunshine state before returning home. Saturday, March 8th, MMU will rematch against Rivier at 1 pm, and close out their trip with a contest against Anna Maria at 3:45 pm. All coverage of Blue Angel softball can be found here at www.mtmaryathletics.com
