Maple Grove, MN- The Mount Mary softball team and Polars of Crown College connected for a doubleheader on Sunday. The host Polars took both games of the doubleheader, by scores of 21-1 and 7-1.
In game one, Crown began the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the 1st. The Crown offense then put up a big number in inning number 2, plating six runs to extend their lead to 7-0.
Crown was relentless for the rest of the game, defeating Mount Mary by a final score of 21-1. The Blue Angel run came in the top of the 5th, when Jodie Penman singled in Amanda Nance. Nance had reached on a double.
In the day's second game, Lily Day did a fine job in the pitching circle for MMU. The game stayed scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when Crown took a 3-0 lead.
The Polars would stretch their lead to 7-0 before MMU got on the board in the top of the 7th. Naomi Gomez came through with a rbi double to score Amanda Nance. Mount Mary had consistent traffic on the base paths and pounded out ten hits, but the Blue Angels were only able to push across a single run. Micaela Gonzalez had three hits in game two and Alexandria Eads contributed two.
Mount Mary (3-14) will next be in action on Wednesday, April 9th. The Blue Angels will head to Lakeland University to take on the Muskies. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3 and 5 pm in Howards Grove. All live coverage will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
