Lakeland knocks off Blue Angels

Lakeland knocks off Blue Angels

Plymouth, WI- The Mount Mary softball team traveled to Lakeland University to take on the Muskies in a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Blue Angels provided several highlights on the day but dropped both ends of the doubleheader to Lakeland.

In Game one, Lakeland took the lead in the first inning with a single run.  Jodie Penman would tie the game in the second inning with a rbi single.

Unfortunately, the bottom of the second went awry for the Blue Angels, Lakeland scored seven runs to take an 8-1 lead into inning number three.  From that point on it would be all Muskies, as Lakeland took game one by a 15-2 final score.  Lillian Fay collected two hits during game one for MMU.

Game two saw Lakeland get off to another fast start.  The Muskies took a 5-0 lead into the 3rd inning.  With Lakeland leading 7-0, Kylie Ann Kluck provided the offensive highlight of the day for Mount Mary, she blasted a three-run homer to bring the Blue Angels within four at 7-3.

Unfortunately, this would be as close as MMU would get, Lakeland would score the next four runs of game two for an 11-3 victory.

Kluck had two hits including the three run round trip, and Crystal Peterson had two hits and two stolen bases.

The Blue Angels (3-16) will next be in action on Friday, April 18th, when they head to Ripon College for a doubleheader.  Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all coverage and updates on Mount Mary softball.
