Blue Angels drop tight contest to Marian

Blue Angels drop tight contest to Marian

Milwaukee, WI- Mount Mary and the Marian University Sabres engaged in a tight back and forth basketball game Tuesday evening at the Bloechl Center. Marian held a one point lead at half which they eventually stretched to eleven. The Blue Angels would storm back and cut the deficit to four, however they would get no closer and fell by a 63-54 final score.

Mount Mary trailed by just one at both the end of the first quarter and the first half.  Marian piled up 12 offensive rebounds in the first half, which prevented MMU from establishing an early lead.  The third quarter proved to be the undoing for the Blue Angels, while they continued to defend solidly and the rebounding improved, their 6 points in the quarter to Marian's 16 would prove to be the difference in the game.

Again, two freshmen paced MMU in scoring, Deja Rivers overcame early foul trouble to score 21 points and grab 9 rebounds.  Skye Giddings scored 16 and had 4 assists, 4 rebounds and four steals.  Talesa Campbell also provided 13 points and eight rebounds in the contest.

Turnovers had been an early season issue for MMU, not so on Thursday evening.  Mount Mary turned the ball over just 14 times compared to 25 for Marian.  The Blue Angels continued to struggle from three point range, knocking down just 6 of 29 attempts.

Following a second tight defeat in four games, the Blue Angels (0-4) will head to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Emmaus Bible College.  The game will be played on Saturday, November 19th, at 1 pm.
