Bloechl Packed in Tribute to Marc Heidorf- Alverno uses 4th quarter run to knock off Mount Mary

Milwaukee, WI- On a night that was a fitting tribute to Marc Heidorf, the Mount Mary Blue Angels and Alverno Inferno engaged in a physical, hard fought basketball match up. MMU held an 8 point lead in the third quarter, but the Inferno stormed back and wore down the Blue Angels for 73-61 victory.

Late Alverno assistant and Mount Mary head coach Marc Heidorf was honored on the evening, his family was in attendance and many Alverno and Mount Mary alumni and fans packed the Bloechl Center to create the best game atmosphere of the season.

The contest itself was as tight as could be for three and a half quarters.  After trailing by one at half, the Blue Angels stormed ahead with hot three point shooting and a series of defensive stops.  With seven minutes to play in the 3rd, MMU held an eight point lead.

Unfortunately for the Blue Angels, Alverno used their size and depth advantage to stay close enough to make a game clinching run.   Mount Mary fouled down the stretch and the Inferno pulled away for a 12 point win, 73-61.

Statistically the game was largely even with the exception of offensive rebounding.  The Inferno had 23 offensive rebounds which wore down Mount Mary and was largely the difference in the contest.

Skye Giddings continued her trend of leading the Blue Angels in scoring, she poured in 27 points and has now scored 52 points in Mount Mary's last two games.  Talesa Campbell played her finest game of the season, with a double double, 15 points and ten rebounds.  India Lucas and Deja Rivers both nearly recorded double doubles, Lucas with 9 points and 8 rebounds, and Rivers with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

Mount Mary (1-5) will play one more contest before both the Thanksgiving Break and a 10 day break from games.  The Blue Angels will head to Michigan to take on the Comets of Olivet College.  The contest will take place on Wednesday, November 23rd at 4:30 pm Central Time.  All coverage will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
