Mount Mary drops tight game at Rockford

Mount Mary drops tight game at Rockford

Rockford, IL- The Rockford Regents used a 16-5 run to open the game and a 20-10 first quarter to stake a lead over Mount Mary on Friday night. The game largely played even from that point forward, with MMU drawing as close as 4 points in the 4th quarter. But Rockford held off all Blue Angel rallies and after MMU was forced to foul in the last minute, allowing the Regents to defeat MMU by a score of 65-53.

Friday's contest was in many ways a reversal of the Blue Angels previous game against Northland.  Instead of shooting out to a lead as MMU did at Northland, they were forced to overcome an 11 point defecit after the first half.  Mount Mary showed fight in the second half, pulling within 2 possessions with under four minutes to go, however the Blue Angels came up a few defensive stops or timely offensive plays short of pulling out the road win at Rockford.

Three Blue Angels scored in double digits on Friday, Skye Giddings with 16, Deja Rivers with 15, and Talesa Campbell with 13.  Each player contributed to the rebounding cause as well, Giddings with 6, Rivers with 8, and Campbell with 9.  India Lucas had 6 rebounds and Alexus Hatcher added 4.

Mount Mary (3-9) will have one more home contest prior to the Holiday break.  The Blue Angels will host Blackburn on Sunday, December 18th, at 5 pm.  All coverage is available here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
