Sluggish Start and 3 Point Line Cost Blue Angels at Maranatha

Watertown, WI- Heading into Thursday evening's contest the Mount Mary Basketball team had lost 6 straight match ups to Maranatha Baptist University. The streak was extended to seven due to MMU's cold three point shooting and Maranatha holding off a Blue Angel charge down the stretch. The Sabercats were victorious 59-54.

The hosts of MBU went ahead 4-0 as Mount Mary started the game missing several chances around the rim.  The game evened out as MMU trailed 14-11 at the end of the 1st and 25-21 at the half.  The Blue Angels briefly took the lead in the 3rd quarter but could never sustain the momentum and pull out the road victory.

Mount Mary shot just 28% from the floor and 12% from behind the three point arc.  Despite getting to the line 23 times (6 more than Maranatha), the Blue Angels were only able to connect on 15 of the 23 tries from the charity stripe.  Mount Mary cut the lead back to three with 8 seconds to play, but Maranatha Senior Katelyn Morrison knocked in two free throws (she poured in 32 points on the night) to ice the game and provide the final margin.

Deja Rivers and Talesa Campbell each provided double doubles for the Blue Angels.  Rivers scored 19 points and 11 rebounds, Campbell had 14 points and secured 10 rebounds on the game.  Skye Giddings added 15 points for the Blue Angels.

Mount Mary (6-14) will return home on Tuesday, January 31st, when they host Lake Forest College.  It will be the first home game for the Blue Angels since January 2nd and all coverage will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
