Blue Angels stay close but can't chop down Foresters

Milwaukee, WI- In many of the Mount Mary Basketball team's closer losses this season, two trends have emerged. The challenge of facing teams with more experience and greater depth, this was the case once again Tuesday night against Lake Forest College. Mount Mary did everything they could to keep the game close, but Lake Forest wore the Angels down for an 83-64 victory.

The first half was largely a back and forth affair, Lake Forest really pressured MMU with their fast break offense, which lead to good shots for the Foresters around the basket and from the perimeter.  MMU was able to hold off the big run however and they went to the half trailing 36-28.

The Blue Angels came out of the locker room with sustained spirit and cut the the lead to 38-33, but senior Katie Neher and the rest of the Foresters would not wilt. Neher scored 29 on the evening. The lead fluctuated between 6 and 12 for the remainder of the game and Lake Forest pulled away for the 19 point win.

Neher played 36 minutes for Lake Forest, the most of anyone on their team, Mount Mary however had four players play 35 minutes or more.

Skye Giddings had an explosive night for the Mount Mary offense.  She poured in 28 points on 10-22 shooting including 4 of 6 from the 3 point line.  The 28 point performance was her 3rd 25 plus point game on her freshman season.   India Lucas played a stellar game as well for the Blue Angels, she scored 13 points on 100% shooting from the field and added 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.  Deja Rivers added 12 points and 8 rebounds for MMU.

Mount Mary (6-15) will next be in action on Monday, February 6th, when they head to Chicago to take on the Illinois Institute of Technology.  The Scarlet Hawks were the Blue Angels opponent in this season's first game.  MMU took a seven point lead into the half before IIT came back for the victory.  Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all coverage of Mount Mary Basketball.
