Rivers scores 30 but not enough for Blue Angels to hang with Finlandia

Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary basketball team played one of their best offensive halves of the season in the first half Friday evening when they hosted Finlandia University. But nothing the Blue Angels tried defensively could slow down the Lions and specifically Megan Bartle, the Finlandia stand out transfer scored 36 points and nearly completed a triple double to lead her team to a 103-62 win.

Finlandia shot 57% from the floor and placed five players in double digits.  The highlight for MMU was Deja Rivers establishing a career and season high with 30 points on the night.  She shot a remarkable 11-17 from the floor and also grabbed eight rebounds.  Her first year teammate Skye Giddings added 20 points on the evening.  Earlier this week, Giddings established a new single scoring record which she added onto on Friday.  She broke another single season MMU record this evening connecting on her 43rd and 44th made 3 point shot, the 44 made three point goals is the most ever in a season for a Mount Mary player.

Rivers now has 399 points on the season, which also would have eclipsed the previous scoring mark.  Thus Giddings and Rivers have each recorded the highest scoring seasons in the NCAA era of Mount Mary basketball as freshmen.

Mount Mary (6-17) has two more contests before heading to Virginia for the Coast to Coast conference tournament.  The first will be Thursday, February 16th, when the Blue Angels host Maranatha Baptist University.  MMU will look to avenge an earlier five point loss to the Sabercats.  The Mount Mary Basketball program will also honor lone senior, Talesa Campbell, with a senior night ceremony prior to the contest.
