Basketball season ends at C2C Tournament

Fredericksburg, VA- In Thursday evening's C2C basketball tournament first round, Mount Mary held the host Eagles of Mary Washington scoreless for the game's first three minutes, the Blue Angels held a 5-0 lead and hoped an upset might be in the cards. Unfortunately for MMU, Mary Washington overwhelmed Mount Mary for the remainder of the contest and cruised to a 93-31 win.

Mary Washington was the bigger, stronger and deeper squad in Thursday's match up.  MMU needed great three point shooting and to control the defensive glass, they were unable to do either, shooting 3-28 from behind the arc and allowing Mary Washington to grab 28 offensive rebounds.

Deja Rivers capped off her remarkable first season (named C2C rookie of the year earlier in the week) with 18 points and 7 rebounds. No other Blue Angel was able to reach double digits.  Mary Washington saw 12 players score in the game, 3 reaching double digits.

The MMU basketball team finishes with a 7-19 record, the 7 win improvement from the 21-22 season is the biggest improvement in modern program history.  With the possibility of returning four starters (Talesa Campbell was the squad's lone senior) the future seems to be bright for the Blue Angels on the basketball court.
