Knights slip by Mount Mary in 4th Quarter

Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary Basketball team's last three contests have followed a similar pattern that continued Sunday at the Bloechl Center as MMU hosted the Knights of Martin Luther College.  For three consecutive games, the Blue Angels have held fourth quarter leads and their opponents have rallied to knock off the Blue Angels in close contests.  MMU led by as many as nine in the fourth on Sunday, but MLC chipped away at the lead and eventually made the plays that led to a 60-55 victory over the homestanding Blue Angels.

The first three quarters were largely even, MMU led by three heading into halftime and at the end of the third quarter.  The game essentially came down to two statistical categories.  MLC forced the young Blue Angel team into 22 turnovers and grabbed 21 offensive rebounds, many of the which came in the last five minutes of the game.  A Deja Rivers basket brought MMU to within three with seven seconds to play, but Mount Mary was forced to foul, and the Knights knocked down two free throws to essentially end the contest.

India Lucas paced Mount Mary in scoring with 14 points, she added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.  Vanessa Diaz scored 13 and grabbed seven rebounds.  Joselyn Gonzales, Deja Rivers, and Sanai Ballard each scored eight for the Blue Angels as well.

Mount Mary (3-4) will look to turn things around as they take on a local Milwaukee rival in their next contest.  On Wednesday, November 29th, the Blue Angels will head to the Milwaukee School of Engineering for a 7 pm contest.  All coverage of Mount Mary Basketball can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
