Final Minutes cost Blue Angels win against Monmouth

Milwaukee, WI- The basketball teams of Mount Mary University and Monmouth College finished 2023 with a largely even contest on Sunday afternoon.  A Na'Zyia Bobo lay up with 6 minutes to go in the game would give the Blue Angels a one point lead.  Unfortunately for MMU, those points would be their last of the day.  Monmouth made a key field goal and MMU was forced to foul in the game's last minute, leading the Scots to a 56-46 victory.

The story of the day for Mount Mary was an inability to really find a groove offensively.  The Blue Angels turned the ball over 12 times in the first half, setting Monmouth to a 30-25 lead at intermission.  Mount Mary would charge back in the third and trailed by just one at 43-42 heading into the fourth quarter.  But a combination of 20 points off turnovers for Monmouth and cold shooting from the floor and the foul line by MMU were the difference on the day.

Three first year players paced Mount Mary in scoring, Brianna Mendez scored 12, Na'Zyia Bobo 10, and Sanai Ballard 9.  Deja Rivers added 7 points and India Lucas 5.  Joselyn Gonzales was the rebounding leader for the Blue Angels with 8, and Deja Rivers added 7.   Ta'Miah Jamison grabbed 6 rebounds as did India Lucas.

Mount Mary (6-8) will be back in action on Wednesday, January 3rd.  It will be the first of two January trips for Mount Mary to Northland College.  MMU defeated Northland on December 15th at the Bloechl Center.  The January 3rd game will tip at 7 pm and all coverage can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
