Blue Angels defeat Maranatha

Milwaukee,WI- The Mount Mary basketball team defeated Maranatha Baptist on Saturday by a score of 74-45.  The Blue Angels contolled the game throughout and with the win established a new program record for wins over fellow NCAA opponents at 6 for the season.  Their 8th win of the 23-24 campaign also ties them for the second most wins in modern era program history.  The record for single season victories currently stands at 10, set in the 2018-2019 season.

Mount Mary began the game on a 17-3 run and never allowed Maranatha back into the contest.  The Blue Angels took a 41-25 lead into halftime and cruised to the 29 point victory.  It was the second win this week in which the Blue Angels were cold from behind the three point line, but like Wednesday's win at Northland, Mount Mary overcame their struggle from behind the arc with tough defense and taking care of the ball.

Mount Mary saw four players score in double digits, paced by Brianna Mendez who overcame foul trouble to score 19 points and grab 6 rebounds.  Joselyn Gonzales had her second stellar game of the week, just missing a second straight double double with 14 points and 9 rebounds.  Na'Zyia Bobo scored fifteen and India Lucas posted a remarkable all-around game.  Lucas tallied ten points to go with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Also similar to Wednesday's game at Northland, all nine Blue Angels who played in the game entered the scoring column and had at least one rebound.

Following the 2-0 week, Mount Mary (8-8) will have some time to catch their breath before continuing their schedule.  Their next contest will be on Tuesday, January 16th at Northland College.  That game is scheduled to tip at 6 pm and all coverage will be available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
