Cold first half costs MMU at Great Lakes Christian

Cold first half costs MMU at Great Lakes Christian

Lansing, MI- In Saturday's contest at Great Lakes Christian, the Mount Mary Basketball team hoped to grab a fourth straight win and win their tenth game of the season.  That victory would equal the program's all time high.  Great Lakes Christian did not allow that to happen however, holding MMU to just four first half field goals and handing Mount Mary a 75-49 loss, the first for the Blue Angels in 2024.

MMU could not get their offense rolling in the first half, shooting just 4-18 from the floor and 1-11 from three point range.  The cold shooting combined with 11 MMU turnovers and ten offensive rebounds for Great Lakes would put the Blue Angels in a 37-19 hole at the break.

The second half would play closer, but it was not Mount Mary's day in Michigan's Capital City.  The Blue Angels shooting improved in the second half but they could not slow down GLCC, who grabbed 20 offensive rebounds on the day, making a comeback nearly impossible for Mount Mary.

Deja Rivers paced Mount Mary with 21 points, and she added 8 rebounds and two assists.  Alexus Hatcher scored 9 points and snared four rebounds while Brianna Mendez came up just short of a double double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

The Blue Angels (9-9) will next be in action on Wednesday, January 31st.  MMU will cross the Illinois border to take on Lake Forest College.  The game begins at 7 pm and all coverage is available here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
