Victory over Maranatha matches all time wins record

Milwaukee, WI- Coming off two consecutive road defeats, the Mount Mary Blue Angel basketball team looked to bounce back at home against the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University.  Smothering defense and a strong first half established a big lead for MMU that they would not relinquish.  The 64-48 win for Mount Mary was their tenth of the season, matching the program single season win record set during the 18-19 season.

The Blue Angels played perhaps their best defensive half of the season in the first half on Monday evening, holding Maranatha to just 15 points.  The Blue Angels took a 39-15 lead into the break.  A cold start in the 3rd quarter combined with a Maranatha rally brought the Sabercats back within striking distance, but the night belonged the MMU as they secured the season's tenth victory and brought their overall record back to .500

All seven Blue Angels who played in the contest entered the scoring column, including four in double digits.  Na'Zyia Bobo led the way with 14 points, followed by Ta'Miah Jamison with 13, Alyssen Noriega with 12 and Brianna Mendez with 11.  Mendez paced Mount Mary with 10 rebounds to record the double double on the evening.  Jamison grabbed seven rebounds as did India Lucas, and Bobo added 5.  The Blue Angels recorded 18 assists to just 13 turnovers, one of their best assist to turnover games of the season.

Mount Mary (10-10) is now just one win shy of establishing a new single season program record.  Their first opportunity to reach that record setting mark will be Wednesday, February 7th.  The Blue Angels will head to Beloit College for a 7 pm contest.  All coverage of Mount Mary Basketball can be found here on www.mtmaryathletics.com
