Blue Angels even record with win at Grace Christian

Blue Angels even record with win at Grace Christian

Wyoming, MI- Since their home victory against Alverno on November 18th, the Mount Mary Basketball team has played nothing but road contests.  Thursday night's game at Grace Christian University was the 4th straight road game for the Blue Angels in four different states.  MMU grabbed their first win of the extended road stretch with a 64-52 win over Grace Christian University.

In many ways, the night belonged to Mount Mary senior India Lucas.  Lucas carried the Blue Angel offense in the first half, knocking down key three point shots when otherwise Mount Mary could not buy a basket.  MMU took a four point lead into intermission.

In addition to Lucas continuing her stellar play in the second half, Vanessa Diaz rose to the occasion offensively.  Diaz had 17 second half points, including five made three point shots.  Mount Mary's three point shooting, (9-26) turned out to be one of the differences in the contest.  Diaz would finish with 18 points.

The game played itself out in a back and forth fashion until the final two minutes, MMU was able to string together some key defensive stops, followed by cluth baskets by Deja Rivers, to hold on for the twelve point win.  Rivers had a fine game, with eight points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds.  Remarkably, Mount Mary had 23 assists on their 24 made field goals.

Sanai Ballard was an all-around contibutor, with eight points, five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.  Statistically, Lucas was a marvel, coming just a few plays short of a triple double.  In addition to her career high 22 points, Lucas recorded nine assists, eight rebounds, and two steals.  She shot 8-11 from the floor on the evening.

Mount Mary (4-4) will play one more road contest before returning home.  On Friday, December 13th, the Blue Angels will play at Eureka College, which will be followed up by a home contest on Saturday, December 14th, against Northland College.
