Milwaukee, WI- Coming off of a tough loss to Dominican University, in which their offense struggled in the middle quarters, the Mount Mary basketball team's offensive attack bounced back against Benedictine University on Monday. Unfortunately for the Blue Angels, Benedictine had too much size and offensive firepower and they defeated MMU by a score of 85-56.
The Blue Angel offense showed significant improvement, MMU shot 39% from the floor and knocked down 7 three point shots. However Benedictine was not to be stopped on the evening, pouring in 85 points and shooting nearly forty percent from behind the three point line.
Mount Mary trailed by just four at the end of the first quarter, and fourteen at half, but they could not erase the deficit in the game's second half.
The Blue Angels were paced in scoring by Vanessa Diaz and Avery Gorn, with 13 and 12 points respectively. India Lucas added nine and Deja Rivers seven. Eight different Blue Angels scored in the contest. Lucas was MMU's high rebounder with five and Diaz dished out four assists.
The contest was the final game of a strenuous series of games for MMU, their fifth game in 10 days. The Blue Angels (6-10) will have some time to catch their collective breath before hosting Maranatha Baptist University on Saturday, January 11th. The contest will start at 1 pm and all live coverage of Mount Mary Basketball is available on www.mtmaryathletics.com
