MMU drops another close call

Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary Blue Angel Basketball team had multiple opportunities to tie or take a late game lead in their contest on Saturday against Great Lakes Christian College.  The ball did not bounce in favor of MMU however, as they fell to the Crusaders by a final score of 59-56.

A huge day on the offensive glass for the Crusaders proved to be the difference in the contest, as Great Lakes secured 22 offensive rebounds.  The Blue Angels trailed by as much as 13 in the first half but rallied to trail by only three at intermission.

The game came down to the final possession with a Blue Angel contested three-point attempt falling short to give Great Lakes the close win.

The Blue Angels were once again cold from behind the three-point line, connecting on just seven of thirty-one attempts.   MMU dealt with first half foul trouble as well but were able to overcome the adversity and nearly pull out the victory.

Vanessa Diaz was the high scorer for the Blue Angels with 18 points, Avery Gorn scored 10 and added 6 rebounds.  India Lucas scored 8 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 3 assists.  Joselyn Gonzales also played a well-rounded floor game with nine points and six rebounds.

MMU (7-12) will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday, January 28th.  The Blue Angels will head to Dubuque, Iowa to take on Emmaus Bible College at 4 pm.  Stay tuned to www.mtmaryathletics.com for all coverage of Blue Angel Basketball.
