Milwaukee, WI- The Mount Mary basketball team came into Thursday's Coast to Coast Conference 1st round match up hoping to secure their third consecutive victory and a first ever post season win. It was not to be in the Bloechl Center however, as ice cold shooting in the first and fourth quarters did in the Blue Angels. MMU fell to UC Santa Cruz by a final score of 77-33.
Playing the contest against the much larger UC Santa Cruz team, the Blue Angels three point shooting was going to be a key in the game. Unfortunately MMU connected on just 5 of 32 attempts from behind the arc.
Defensively, Mount Mary was able to string together a series of stops in the second and third quarters, but eventually the size of Santa Cruz combined with the Blue Angels' cold shooting prevented MMU from staying close.
Vanessa Diaz paced the Blue Angels with 10 points and she added three assists. In her final game as a Blue Angel, India Lucas scored eight points and had six rebounds, she completes a stellar career of winning and statistical accomplishment. Alyssen Noriega also completed her career at MMU, dropping in two points and securing two rebounds.
Mount Mary finishes the 24-25 campaign at 10-14. the second most wins in program history, after the 12 win season in 23-24. The 22 wins in two years is the most in any 2 year period of MMU basketball, and the 29 wins over the last three seasons also stands as the most successful three year stretch in program history.
