Blue Angels blast LCU, RMU-P to secure winning season

LINCOLN, Ill./PEORIA, Ill. – The Blue Angels soccer team left its mark on Central Illinois this weekend with a pair of resounding victories. Friday, the Blue Angels scored five first-half goals at Lincoln Christian in a 6-2 victory, then cruised past Robert Morris-Peoria 7-0 on Saturday.

The Blue Angels played focused soccer Friday afternoon in Lincoln and came out on a mission in the first half. Five of the six goals scored came in the first stanza as Mount Mary never looked back.

Sophomore Emily Ristow (Sheboygan, Wis.) recorded yet another hat-trick, scoring four goals on seven shots with an assist. Junior Raskia Perera (Oak Creek, Wis.) added a goal on her own in four shot attempts, and senior Katelyn Prange (Brookfield, Wis.) converted on her only shot attempt. Junior Allison Appmann (Racine, Wis.) also tallied an assist on the day as MMC exploited an incredibly balanced attack.

Mount Mary continued to spread the offensive wealth Saturday in Peoria as four Blue Angels found the back of the net and five recorded at least one assist in a dominant 7-0 victory.

Ristow scored three goals and an assist, Perera added a pair of scores and two assists, Appmann notched a goal and assist, junior Ashley Leverenz (Mauston, Wis.) blasted home a penalty kick and junior Nina Her (Brown Deer, Wis.) and senior Sarah McVey (Lake Zurich, Ill.) each tallied an assist on the day.

Defensively, Mount Mary didn't see much action as it controlled the ball for much of the game. Senior goalkeeper Kirby McMahon (Grayslake, Ill.) recorded just two saves on two shots.

The Blue Angel's record-breaking soccer season continues to write history, as with the pair of wins on the weekend, Mount Mary secured its first ever winning soccer season in school history.

Mount Mary will conclude its season with a pair of home games next week, hosting Alverno Wednesday and UW-Superior Sunday. The Blue Angels lost to Alverno 7-0 earlier this season.
