Yellowjackets sting Blue Angels in season finale

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary College soccer team suffered its second straight defeat to cap off an otherwise wonderful season, dropping a 5-1 loss to Wisconsin-Superior Sunday afternoon.

After an emotional defeat Wednesday by the hands of Alverno, the Blue Angels struggled to get any sort of offensive rhythm going against the Yellowjackets.

For the game, MMC took only three shots total, as an early second-half goal by sophomore Emily Ristow (Sheboygan, Wis.) was the only score for the host Blue Angels. Junior Rasika Perera (Oak Creek, Wis.) notched the assist on the scoring play, but a 3-0 UW-Superior halftime lead proved too much to overcome. UW-S would tally 33 shots, 21 of which were on-goal, as senior goalkeeper Kirby McMahon (Grayslake, Ill.) made 16 stops in the box.

Five different UW-Superior players scored and three other Yellowjackets tallied an assist on the day.

Mount Mary seniors McMahon, Sarah McVey (Lake Zurich, Ill.), Katelyn Prange (Brookfield, Wis.) and Jill Christianson (Onalaska, Wis.) were honored after the game for their dedication to the program. While taking the season-ending loss, this group of seniors helped establish Mount Mary soccer, and undoubtedly set the foundation upon which to build for a strong program.
