Blue Angels Battle Injuries, Engulfed by Inferno

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary College soccer team's biggest foe this season has been numbers—keeping a full squad on the field for the full 90 minutes. The struggle continued Tuesday as a nagging injury knocked one of the Blue Angels' biggest offensive threats out of the match in the second half.

"It was our first road game of the season and played well for the first half," head coach Joe Shokatz said. "The pressure was too much as we allowed five goals. Playing strong in the defeat were our freshmen Nina Her, Cynthia Covarrubias, and Vanessa Schellinger."

Mount Mary did have a handful of chances early in the first half, as junior forward Rasika Perera (Oak Creek, Wis.) forged a shot against the Alverno goalkeeper, but it was the only shot on goal for the Blue Angels.

Alverno, meanwhile, was able to blast two shots past senior goalkeeper Kirby McMahon (Grayslake, Ill.) in the first half before the defense broke down in the second en route to a 7-0 loss.

Junior Emily Ristow, who left the game with asthma-related issues, sent three shots in-range but none of them found the back of the Alverno net.

Mount Mary returns home for a Saturday afternoon matinee against Rockford College. The Regents are 0-2 on the season following a pair of losses last weekend in Northern Athletics Conference play.
